ICE WATCH
2014
From Olafur Eliasson, the Icelandic-Danish artist known for large-scale sculptures and installations using elemental materials such as ice, water, and light. This artwork was selected because of its depiction of nature’s raw and primal power. Large and immovable blocks of glacial ice that have outlived our generation are placed in public settings for onlookers and bystanders to have a reminder of Mother Nature and her power. This connects to the narrative theme of climate change because of how the glaciers are melting due to the increasing temperatures in the Earth’s atmosphere which would result in the sea levels rising, negatively impacting our environment.
